Wood Burning-officialenergyfuel.co.uk

It’s extremely important to keep a well maintained and clean stove. Not only does it promote the efficiency and burning qualities of the fuel inside, but it also helps improve the aesthetics of your stove and means you can see the flames and fuel clearly through the glass.

What is the best way to clean a wood burning stove?

We believe that the best way to clean a wood burning stove is to use a paper towel and some fine ash. To clean the stove, you should follow these steps:

  1. Slightly wet a paper towel.
  2. Dip the paper towel into some fine ash.
  3. Lightly rub the glass with the ash in circular motions.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 until the glass is completely clear.
  5. Use a dry paper towel to dry the glass.

Following the steps above will ensure the cleanest possible fire.

Should I buy a product to clean my stove?

There are many products available to buy which claim to speed up the cleaning process. These are often a spray that can be applied directly to the glass. These products speed up the process but, in our experience, do not perform any better than using fine ash. On top of that, ash is free!

Does WD40 Work When Cleaning My Stove?

You should not use WD40 for cleaning the glass on your stove. You should only use the methods referred to above to clean the glass. However, you can use WD40 to clean the hearth by adding a small amount of WD40 to some kitchen role and wiping gently across it. Using this method should bring some sheen and brightness back to your stove.

Why Should I Clean My Wood Burning Stove?

Aesthetics

Cleaning your stove will make your stove look better, cleaner, and newer. By restoring the sheen using WD40 for example, the stove could look as good as new. A clean viewing area on the glass provides the best possible enjoyment of your purchase as you can see the flames clearly. It also looks great for any visitors you may have!

Safety

A clean stove is a safe stove. Regular cleaning helps prevent soot build-up which could be dangerous and cause excessive heat/ or uncontrolled fire. It is essential that you keep your stove clean and tidy. You should also make sure you regularly sweep the chimney to prevent soot build-up as well.

Efficiency

Excess soot, ash and other debris can prevent a fire burning efficiently as well as make it more difficult to light. Although we always recommend starting a fire with some ash present, too much ash can create problems for airflow and therefore a less efficient fire.
