Our Anthracite Large is a smokeless fuel that provides a good, long lasting flame and produces very little ash.

Anthracite is a naturally occurring semi-smokeless fuel traditionally used for cookers, room heaters and boilers. Stove nuts are mid-sized lumps but the largest anthracite product we stock.

Anthracite fuel is a hard and shiny coal with high carbon and less impurities. This process takes many years, so it is considered a non-renewable fuel. This anthracite coal has many uses outside of heating, but is mainly used to heat homes and business buildings.

Anthracite has more carbon than soft smokeless coal, 86 to 98%, compared to 45 to 86%. This higher carbon content results in a more efficient and cleaner burning fuel – due to this additional carbon, it has more energy than regular coal, making it a more efficient fuel source.

It’s worth noting that Anthracite coal costs more than regular coal as it has more energy but isn’t as common as soft smokeless coal. However, its higher efficiency and cleanliness can mostly offset this higher price.

Due to the above factors, this anthracite coal has a lower environmental impact. It burns more efficiently and cleanly, resulting in less greenhouse gas emissions per unit of energy produced; resulting in less air pollution and associated health risks with regular smokeless coal.
